I’m learning that one of the toughest parts of preparing for an exhibition is deciding which prints not to include.
For my upcoming show at Vi ewPoint Gallery, “Pollinator Garden“, I will have a wall of 34 colour prints. They will be various sizes, from 5.5″ x 8.5″ up to 19″ x 23″. But the content will all be larger-than-life: images of wild bees, butterflies and other garden life, most photographed around my own home.
In selecting the images I have chosen from among my favourites. These are the photos that I think are the most successful either in terms of colour and composition or that I feel capture an expressive portrait of these garden visitors.
But there were other factors to consider. I’ve also want to represent some of the diversity of the pollinators in the region, to accurately reflect the kinds of creatures I encounter right in my own front yard, and to highlight some of the species that I personally find most interesting.
Inevitably, I had to cut some image that I really wanted to share.
Fortunately, I have the opportunity to present some of these outtakes on line, in a companion webpage for the show: https://www.viewpointgallery.ca/exhibition-benjamin-pollinators
